About

Made for the work.

Marked Copy makes clothing and objects for people who write books. Not for the idea of writing. For the actual work.

Why this exists

Most writing merchandise is made for people who like the aesthetic of writing: typewriters they have never used, quills, inspirational quotes about the muse. None of it survives contact with a real manuscript. A writer three months into a draft does not want to be told to follow their dreams. They want a hoodie that holds up to being worn for eleven days straight and a mug that does not chip.

Marked Copy is built from the vocabulary of the job instead — drafts, revision marks, galleys, deadlines, royalties, series bibles. The references are specific. If you have done the work, you will recognise them. If you have not, they read as clean typography, which is fine too.

How things are made

Everything is produced on demand in small batches. Nothing is warehoused, so nothing is destroyed at the end of a season. That means an order takes a few days longer to leave than it would from a company sitting on ten thousand units, and we think that is the correct trade.

Garments are chosen for weight and durability before print quality. Objects are chosen because they can be used every day for years.

The collections

Five standing departments — The Draft, Revision Department, Independent Operations, Romance Department, and The Desk — each covering a different part of the job. Read what each one is for.

Correspondence

Questions about an order, a print, or a collaboration go to support@markedcopy.com. A person reads it. Replies usually land within two business days.
